Davina McCall has disclosed that she is undergoing a brain operation after doctors found a benign tumour.
Speaking in a video shared on Instagram, the 57-year-old television presenter revealed that the tumour was a colloid cyst, which she described as “very rare”.
She mentioned that the chances of having the tumour were “three in a million,” and that she first found out about it a few months ago when a company offered her a health scan in exchange for giving a menopause talk.
McCall confessed that she was shocked by the result as she had thought she would do well on the test, only to discover the tumour.
She explained that after seeking opinions from multiple neurosurgeons, she realized that the tumour needed to be removed.
Describing the tumour as “big,” she stated that it was 14mm wide and occupied a significant space, necessitating its removal to prevent potential growth complications.
She detailed the procedure, known as a craniotomy, where they would go through the top of her head and into the two halves of her brain to reach the cyst and remove it.
Ending on a positive note, she asked for prayers and assured viewers that she was in good spirits.
In her update, McCall reassured everyone, saying, “I’m OK. It’s been up and down. Obviously, we’ve been through a lot”.
She mentioned that her hospital stay would be around nine days and that she would be taking a break from her phone during her recovery period.
In a lighthearted manner, she asked fans not to worry about her and humorously admitted, “I’m doing that enough!”
She expressed confidence in her surgeon and his team, stating that she was handing over the reins to them for her healing process.
Concluding her message, she said, “see you on the other side”.
Supporting McCall in his own Instagram post, her partner – hairdresser Michael Douglas, mentioned that she was in “great shape” and under excellent care.
He acknowledged the power of people’s support and assured followers that he would provide updates on her behalf, as she focused on her recovery.
He also appeared in the video message, emphasizing that he would be keeping a close eye on McCall and emphasizing that she was in good hands.
McCall rose to fame through her work on MTV in the mid-1990s and later on Channel 4’s Streetmate before becoming a household name as the host of Big Brother from 2000 to 2010.
She has continued to present various programs across different networks and was honored with an MBE in the 2023 Birthday Honours for her contributions to broadcasting.
With three children, two daughters, and a son, from her second marriage to presenter Matthew Robinson, McCall remains a prominent figure in British media.
