Davina McCall has mentioned that her short-term memory is “a bit remiss” as she goes through recovery from brain tumour surgery.
Speaking from her bed, the visibly emotional TV presenter shared a brief video with her Instagram followers to update them on her condition, describing the recent period as “mad”.
She expressed her “enormous heartfelt thank you” to those who had sent her messages after she publicly revealed earlier this month that she had a benign brain tumour, specifically a colloid cyst, which she referred to as “very rare”.
<pAppearing bright but with a visibly bruised left eye, McCall remarked: "My short-term memory is a bit remiss.
“But that is something I can work on, so I’m really happy about that. I’m writing everything down, to keep myself feeling safe.”
<pShe added: "It's been mad, and it's just really nice to be back home, I'm on the other side.
<pIn a note accompanying the video, she reiterated her gratitude for all the support she has received, and added: "Had a great night's sleep in my own bed. Have a couple of sleeps during the day which keeps my brain clear… Slowly, slowly… "
<pWhen she first shared her diagnosis, she mentioned that the chances of having it were "three in a million" and that she had found out about it several months earlier after a company offered her a health scan in exchange for giving a menopause talk.
<pThe 57-year-old celebrity noted that the support from her fans had "meant the world" to her.
<pShe remarked that her partner, hairdresser Michael Douglas, and her stepmother, Gabby (whom she refers to as mum), were "brilliantly looking after" her.
<pWith tears in her eyes, the presenter expressed: "I'd quickly like to say big up the stepmums. I don't really say thank you to Gabby enough. She's been an amazing rock my whole life."
<pMcCall was estranged from her birth mother, Florence McCall, who passed away in 2008.
<pWith a catch in her voice, McCall continued: "I've got a massive dose of vitamin G – I'm just really grateful. I've always been really lucky in my life, but I feel unbelievably grateful right now. So, thanks for everything, all of you.
“I’m on the mend, I’m resting and sleeping loads and I feel really good. I’m just very lucky.”
<pStars such as presenter Alison Hammond, singer Craig David, and radio host Zoe Ball promptly shared their joy at the positive update.
<pMcCall gained fame by presenting on MTV in the mid-1990s, and later on Channel 4's Streetmate, before becoming a well-known figure as the host of Big Brother from 2000 to 2010.
<pShe has since presented shows across various networks, with the most recent being ITV dating show My Mum, Your Dad.
<pLast year, McCall was honored as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2023 Birthday Honours for her services to broadcasting.
<pHaving been married twice, McCall is a mother to three children, two daughters and a son, with her second husband, presenter Matthew Robertson.
<pSince 2022, she has lived with Douglas, and they co-host a weekly lifestyle podcast together called Making The Cut.
