Wayne Osmond, one of the original members of The Osmonds, has passed away at the age of 73.
The singer, who gained fame alongside his siblings Donny, Jimmy, and Marie Osmond, passed away on New Year’s Day after suffering a stroke, surrounded by his wife and five children, according to family members’ social media posts.
“His legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter have impacted the lives of many people worldwide,” a family statement read.
“He would want everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families are eternal, and that banana splits are the best dessert. We love him and will miss him deeply.”
Donny Osmond, 67, honored his “beloved brother” and expressed gratitude for being able to see him in the hospital before his passing.
“Wayne brought so much joy, laughter, and love to everyone who knew him, including me,” he said. “He was a true optimist and was adored by all.”
Originally from Ogden, Utah, Wayne Osmond was the fourth of nine siblings. The two eldest Osmond brothers, Virl and Tom, were both born with hearing impairments.
The family belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Wayne’s musical journey began when he was a child, forming a barbershop quartet with his brothers Alan, Merrill, and Jay. Later joined by younger siblings Donny and Jimmy, they became well-known in the 1970s with hits like One Bad Apple, Crazy Horses, and Love Me For A Reason.
Sister Marie also found fame as a singer.
