Soeur’s pre-fall collection is rapidly gaining attention, even as we chuckle at the idea of anyone purchasing blazers, knits, or coats right now. This chuckle, however, is not driven by disdain for the season’s styles, but rather a curious optimism about fashion’s ever-evolving landscape.
Though I haven’t fully engaged with Soeur yet, I had a close call last year when I almost bought their soft beige viscose twill mac. Unfortunately, the size 6 felt a bit too oversized for my frame. Yet, it’s their brand positioning that truly captures attention. Soeur embodies the understated aesthetic akin to Toteme or Lemaire, yet it remains much more accessible in terms of pricing. The stores exude an air of sophistication that teeters on snooty, with products meticulously steamed and displayed. The brand’s imagery is also noteworthy, striking a balance between aspirational and relatable—a feat largely attributed to co-founder and former Bonpoint stylist, Domitille Brion.
The product line showcases a fascinating blend of design philosophies, oscillating between Scandi minimalism with a twist and Indian bohemian elements. The collection features structured pieces such as chalky denim and paper-crisp shirts, juxtaposed against soft, silky tops and dresses. Notable design signatures like the Armani-meets-Gigli draped and wrapped scarf necklines are seamlessly integrated with techy outerwear and cool-girl footwear.
On my radar for the upcoming pre-fall season are a trio of standout pieces: the stunning white pleated dirndl, which I previously mentioned back in May; the roomy, ecru Kurt carpenter jeans* (shown above); and the stylish plum technical Jura cagoule*. To complete the ensemble, envision a jazz shoe in cream* paired with a complementary-colored sock—a small, yet significant detail that speaks volumes about the overall look.
It’s undeniable that Soeur is charting its own course within the fashion scene, capturing the essence of modern wearability while still delivering high design. The careful curation of fabrics and cuts across the collection sets a tone that resonates with today’s fashion sensibilities—minimal yet expressive, classic yet adventurous. The brand appeals not just to the trend-setters, but also to those who appreciate quality and sophistication without sacrificing comfort.
